Ordering finished countertops directly from a manufacturer saves time, reduces costs, and eliminates the hassle of finding a local fabricator. But many buyers are unsure how the process works. What information do you need to provide? How are slabs turned into finished countertops? What quality checks should you expect? This guide walks through every step of producing custom finished countertops from quartz slabs, so you can source with confidence.

The process begins with slab selection. Quartz slabs come in different thicknesses, typically 15mm, 20mm, and 30mm. Thicker slabs provide more structural strength and a more substantial appearance, making them popular for large kitchen islands and commercial counters. Thinner slabs are lighter and more economical, suitable for bathroom vanities and smaller surfaces. Color and pattern choices range from solid whites and grays to marble-look veining and speckled granite-look designs. Surface finishes include polished for high gloss, honed for a matte look, and leathered for textured depth. Your selection affects both appearance and price, so choose based on your project requirements and end-user preferences.
Once slabs are selected, the next step is providing accurate drawings. Finished countertop orders require detailed measurements and specifications. A complete drawing includes overall length and width of each countertop piece, thickness, edge profile type, sink cutout dimensions and location, cooktop cutout dimensions and location, faucet hole positions and diameters, and any special requirements such as drainboard grooves or integrated backsplashes. Drawings can be submitted in PDF, DWG, DXF, or even hand-drawn sketches with clear dimensions. Our team reviews every drawing for completeness and contacts you with questions before production begins.
CNC cutting is the first major fabrication step. Computer-controlled cutting machines follow your drawing precisely, cutting the quartz slab to the required shape with tolerances within 0.5 millimeters. Sink and cooktop cutouts are cut simultaneously, ensuring perfect alignment. The CNC process is fully automated, eliminating human error and delivering consistent results across multiple pieces. For large commercial orders with dozens or hundreds of identical countertops, CNC cutting ensures every piece matches the first piece exactly.
Edge profiling adds the finished look to your countertop. Edge profiles are the shape of the countertop’s outer boundary, visible from the front and sides. Popular edge profiles include eased, a simple rounded edge that is clean and modern; beveled, a angled cut that adds visual interest; bullnose, a fully rounded edge that is soft and traditional; ogee, an S-shaped curve that creates an elegant, formal appearance; and mitered, a waterfall edge where the countertop continues down the side of a cabinet. Each edge profile requires specialized router bits and multiple passes to achieve a smooth, consistent shape. Our deep-processing factories in Yunfu and Foshan are equipped with automatic edge profiling machines that produce flawless edges on every piece.
Polishing follows edge profiling. The cut and profiled edges must be polished to match the surface finish of the slab. Polishing uses progressively finer diamond abrasives, starting with coarse grits to remove saw marks and ending with fine grits to achieve a glass-like shine. For honed finishes, polishing stops at a lower grit level to maintain a matte appearance. For leathered finishes, specialized brushes create a textured surface that hides fingerprints and water spots. Our quality control team inspects every polished edge under bright light, checking for uniform gloss, smooth transitions, and any visible scratches or dull spots.
Sink and cooktop cutouts receive special attention. The cutout edges must be polished just like the outer edges, creating a finished look around sinks and cooktops. Sharp corners on cutouts are rounded slightly to reduce stress points that could lead to cracking. For under-mount sinks, the cutout edge is polished to a high gloss because it remains visible. For top-mount sinks, the cutout edge is still polished to prevent moisture absorption and facilitate cleaning. Our factories also offer pre-drilled faucet holes in standard sizes, saving your installers time on site.
Quality inspection occurs at multiple stages. Before any cutting begins, each slab is inspected for surface defects, color consistency, and thickness accuracy. During CNC cutting, random pieces are measured to verify dimensional accuracy. After edge profiling and polishing, each piece is inspected for edge quality, polish consistency, and any chips or cracks. Sink and cooktop cutouts are checked for correct size and position. Finally, fully finished countertops are cleaned, dried, and inspected one last time before packaging. Any piece failing inspection is rejected and remade.
Packaging for export requires careful planning. Finished countertops are fragile and must survive ocean transit. Our standard packaging includes protective foam sheets between each piece, cardboard edge protectors on all corners and cutout edges, plastic shrink wrap to keep out moisture, and wooden crates for high-value or large orders. Each crate is labeled with order number, piece numbers, and handling instructions. Crates are designed to stack safely in shipping containers and withstand rough handling during loading and unloading.
Lead times vary based on order size and complexity. Small orders of one to five finished countertops typically require 10 to 15 working days after slab material is confirmed. Medium orders of six to fifty countertops require 15 to 20 working days. Large commercial orders of over fifty countertops require 20 to 30 working days, depending on quantity and customization complexity. Sample countertops for approval can be produced in 7 to 10 working days. Air freight is available for urgent orders, though ocean freight is more economical for standard deliveries.
Common mistakes to avoid when ordering finished countertops include incomplete measurements, forgetting to account for wall irregularities, missing cutout locations, specifying edge profiles that are too complex for the material thickness, and failing to confirm sink and cookpot models before cutting. To avoid these issues, we recommend providing detailed drawings and confirming all specifications in writing before production begins. For large projects, ordering a sample countertop first validates your drawings and material choices before committing to full production.
Cost factors for finished countertops include slab material grade, thickness, surface finish, edge profile complexity, number and size of cutouts, quantity ordered, packaging requirements, and destination port. Simple eased edges on standard colors in 20mm thickness are most economical. Complex ogee or mitered edges, premium colors with heavy veining, 30mm thickness, and multiple cutouts add cost. Volume discounts apply for orders of twenty or more finished countertops. Our quotations break down all costs clearly, with no hidden fees.
Why choose our integrated model for finished countertops? Unlike slab-only suppliers who cannot provide fabrication, and unlike trading companies who outsource cutting to unknown workshops, we own and operate our own slab factory and deep-processing factories. This means consistent silicon-free quartz material from our Sihui factory, precise fabrication in our Yunfu and Foshan facilities, single-point quality control across all stages, direct pricing with no middleman markups, and faster lead times because material and fabrication are coordinated in-house.
Our export experience ensures smooth delivery. Since 2013, we have shipped finished countertops to clients worldwide. We understand documentation requirements for each destination country, container loading techniques that prevent damage during transit, customs clearance procedures, and after-sales support for installation issues. Our team provides tracking updates and remains available to answer questions even after your order arrives.
